Kicking off new projects / by Guillermo Hernandez Martinez

The Pearland Oilers kick off for the first time in the 2014 Texas high school football season during their game against the Conroe Woodlands College Park Cavaliers played on August 29, 2014 at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah, Texas. Pearland would go on to win the contest 25-14.

I am very happy to have finally gotten started with one of the projects I will be working on for the rest of this year. Each Friday of this high school football season I will be traveling to a different stadium across Texas in order to document the stadiums, rivalries and teams that make Texas high school football one of the best in the nation. I will be focusing not so much on action shots but rather images that describe the high school football experience as more than a single game in a season.

This past Friday I went to the first game in the project: played in Shenandoah, Texas, it pitted suburban powerhouse Pearland High School against the relatively young program of Conroe Woodlands College Park. Both schools play in the 6A Classification, reserved for schools with over 2100 students enrolled. Pearland beat the Cavaliers 25-14, thanks to a four touhcdown effort by senior runningback JaColbie Butler.

This Friday I will be going to R. Clinton Schulze Stadium, more affectionately known as "The Puncherdome," in Mason, Texas for the week 2 matchup between DeLeon High School and Mason High School.
